About our company

SkyTech eLab LLC (STE) is a dynamically developing micro enterprise startup. It was registered on February 2, 2017 by a team of employees of the Silesian University of Technology, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, dealing with research in the field of modern general aviation lightweight structures and energy-efficient electric propulsion systems intended for use in aviation, automotive and mobile robotics. The company is to be a bridge between scientific research conducted at universities and the needs of the aviation, space and automotive industries.

The company focuses on implementing the results of research and development works carried out as part of scientific activities together with the Silesian University of Technology. The results of scientific research conducted by our team are each time analyzed for use in industry. Activities include searching for potential applications and recipients of technology for the results of work carried out within the University and implementation in consultation with the University and conducting, independently of the University, its own research and development works based on its own ideas together with industrial partners. The challenges undertaken include research and implementation work requiring specialist Know-How and high staff skills. The core of employees cooperating with STE are university researchers and PhD students. STE permanently cooperates with companies from the Silesian Aviation Cluster and automotive industry companies from the region. Through contacts and internationalization projects of companies from the Silesian Aviation Cluster, it also establishes contacts with companies and universities abroad striving to expand cooperation to include foreign markets. Cooperation has already been established with companies from the USA and Sweden and universities from Great Britain and Sweden.

Financing of STE activities is based on the orders from the abovementioned companies and research funding programs. An important aspect of the company’s operations are efforts to obtain financial support for independent or in consultation with industrial and scientific partners research and development projects from programs financed by the National Center for Research and Development and European funds under the Horizon 2020 program.

The scope of the company’s competence includes the design, optimization and implementation of energy-saving electric propulsion systems, hybrid power sources and in particular systems based on hydrogen cells, design of lightweight load-bearing structures and in particular aviation composite load-bearing structures, design and implementation of mobile systems including light airplanes and gliders, UAVs, electric vehicles, mobile robots. An important aspect of STE’s operation is the development of Knowledge-Based Systems (KBE) in the application of automation of design processes in the form of computer applications supporting the work of designers and carrying out design work in various fields also based on KBE’s own solutions. In their activities, STE employees use expert design and research skills using specialized software such as various CAD systems (CATIA, Siemens NX, Solidworks, Inventor), CAE software (Matlab / Simulink, Hyperworks, Ansys), and also use systems and National Instruments and Labview research software.

STE participated in the completed internationalization project of the Silesian Aviation Cluster and is currently participating in another project of this type. We are currently implementing a project to develop computer tools to support the design and manufacturing of thin-walled aviation structures to facilitate the design and preparation of thin-layer composite structures together with Silesian Science and Technology Center of the Aviation Industry, which successfully manufactures such structures.
